Pit bulls may get a bad rap sometimes, but for these veterans it’s just what they need.
“Pit Bulls 4 Patriots” is a program that puts pit bulls in the hands of veterans who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
And many have found more than just a best friend; they’ve found healing from mental scars.
Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWonderful program and I know they help the vets- we have similar services here in our area. My only wish is the anchor had not put that misinformation in at the finish of the story; while Pits WILL do almost anything to please their people, they are NOT naturally fighters and won't usually fight with other dogs, even with the most strong "encouragement" or abuse. This is why most of the Pits these dog-fighting cowards have are executed or dumped out in the street because they were useless for their violent purposes. Let's be sure to challenge these comments and assumptions at every opportunity- the book "The Lost Dogs" gives a very good portraitof what the reality is behind these animals and how even the most abused amongst them have the ability to pull through and actually be role-models for others, as well as helpers and best friends. It will also keep you from looking at Michael Vick in the same light again; what you think he did has disappeared in a fog of time and NFL/advertiser hype. What the reality is should prevent him from ever holding his head up in public again, much less our making some type of "hero" out of him. He is the lowliest among our kind- and his victims some of the most special among dogs.
ReplyDeleteNike has resigned michael vick....saying he has served his time. What time? Hello? What about the dogs who's lives he snuffed? What did he do to the the little girl red dog he abused....who,s life he took with his own hands? He is not sorry for a thing.. if he wouldn't of got caught...he would still be doing his deeds. NFL...are you kidding? NIKE...are you kidding? You think he feels remorse for all the beautiful dogs he murdered? You just don't get it.
